The unstoppable speed queen Tiggy Wiggy is set to make her next start in next Saturday’s Group 1 Connolly’s Red Mills Cheveley Park Stakes, while an ambitious tilt against her elders in the Prix de l’Abbaye just eight days later has not been ruled out either.
The two year-old blitzed her 23 rivals in July’s Super Sprint at Newbury, finishing a long 6 lengths ahead of her closest competitor. Following that, connections were tempted to go for the Nunthorpe and have a crack at older sprinters, but ultimately they opted for the Group 2 Lowther Stakes at York against rivals from her own age and sex, which she won under front-running tactics.
Trainer Richard Hannon is now keen to run the sprint sensation in her first Group 1 at Newmarket on September 27. Tiggy Wiggy has won five of her seven starts, and finished second in the other two. A Group 1 tilt will give her a good challenge.
Hannon said: “Tiggy Wiggy definitely goes to Newmarket. We will consider the Prix de l’Abbaye after the Cheveley Park but we want to take on her own generation and sex in a Group 1 first rather than take on the colts and the older horses.
“She is in very good form, is fresh and well and has put on a bit of weight since York. What sets her apart is that she is such a good-moving filly – when other horses strides are shortening she is lengthening.”
Tiggy Wiggy could again face her Lowther rivals, as both Cursory Glance and Anthem Alexander – who finished second and third – are among the 20-strong entry field.
Of a potential rematch, Hannon added: “I think that it was the best Lowther for a number of years and I said at the time that I thought that the Cheveley Park might turn out to be the same sort of race. If that does prove to be the case I just hope that they finish in the same order.”
Should Tiggy Wiggy line up at Longchamp on October 5, she is the 7-2 favourite with Paddy Power to take out the Prix de l’Abbaye. This is a great boost for the filly, considering she faces tough competition from the likes of Sole Power (5-1), Due Dilligence (8-1), Hot Streak (10-1), and Music Master (14-1).
There looks to be big things on this two year-old’s horizon, and it’ll all begin over the coming weeks in her maiden Group 1.
